i agree with mikethekid here freezing a frame with no mouths moving is kinda weird made me think my device froze or something which is bad since pausing the ep is what most people would do and make the scene much more longer and it removes immersion because we thought the tv or any device we use broke

Now I don’t remember if I watched the original or dvd of it, but I can say the original is the best. They even added the Asuka blush.

Dont understand why people hate the original long pause, just because a picture isn’t moving doesn’t mean its not telling a story.

Never seen Evangelion. I’m curious but all I ever hear about it is bad things about the characters and the ridiculous plot, even for anime terms😅 So which version should I watch?

DVD is the best looking one.

Evangelion has to me one of the most perfect examples of "no money, but make them better because of that". It true they ran out of it, but at the same time they made the scene completely meaningful with that "long" and for someone "too long" still scene. I can feel much more their feeling uncomfy, while in the rebuild you can't do it, you have no time. There's another long still scene in my mind, the one where shinji comes back after his first flee. He saw Misato at the train station, and there's a good 40sec of still scene. And it's perfect like that, I didn't imagine anything else considering their psychology, their behaviour, and what's happened before.

I see so many people saying that the "original" was better, but they are completely different scenes with different meanings, they just share the same setting. (Not to mention that for the "artsy" lovers, anything that is seen as "new", like holding the same animation cell for a long time, is seen as fantastic) The "original" was in a point in time in which Asuka felt completely worthless because she is no longer able to pilot the Eva, and she was about to lose herself, and Rei basically tries to tell her what her problem is, but instead of listening to what others had to say, her insecurity makes her just attack Rei, leaving both a little bit worse than at the start of the scene. In the rebuild, the scene is at a point in which Asuka's Eva is taken away because of political bs, so she feels a little bit lost because she thought her worth was linked to the Eva (since she is just one of the many Shikinami-series clones, that was able to "prove" her worth), and Rei tries to tell her that she doesn't need an Eva to have worth, to which Asuka first reacts a little like the original, but then confronts her about how she feels about Shinji, and in the end they kind of are able to empathize with each other. From my point of view, the original series in general is more appreciated by people who battle with depression and other mental health problems, because they pretty much show how the world is seen by them, while the rebuild is more liked by people without these problems, as they are more hopeful and bright.

Wow I never even watched this series but the original one really knocked this scene outta the park, the rebuild one just felt cringe. Maybe because the lip syncing in rebuild didn’t add up very well and there wasn’t as much passion in the voice acting. The original one is really just so much better

For those who dont know....when they should.... The audio for rebuild was not real. That was some weird fandub.the dub sounds nothing like that, neither of them(theres 2 dubs for that film)

Please keep in mind that all three are different . . . yet the same. Evangelion's universe was rebuilt numerous times. All three of these situations happened in canon.

The 2003 version is the 1996 version with new animations, new facial expressions like her eyes and eyelashes. Asuka even has socks. Rebuild 2.22 is just a completely very new animation.

Which is the version that’s on Netflix?

Personally, I prefer the ADV dub. While I understand the netflix version makes her sound her age, it does not reflect the character. Asuka believes she is more mature than everyone, she forced herself to grow up to prove that to everyone and herself, especially when she went through heavy trauma. It only makes sense that her voice would sound deeper than normal (and plus, there are girls that do have deeper voices than the majority). And when they changed context in her dialogue, they changed the impact she has on the story and the character in the Netflix dub. Plus, Netflix Asuka sounds like a child who can't handle anything, while ADV Asuka sounds like she is slowly losing herself.
